Prego Champagne Brunch

“Here’s to Champagne, the drink divine, that makes us forget all our troubles; It’s made of a dollar’s worth of wine, and three dollars worth of bubbles.”

Madame Pompadour, mistress of King Louis XV. (1721 – 1764)

The spirit of Mumm..

Right from the start, nearly 200 years ago, it was the preferred drink of French kings and the royal families of Europe. Today G.H. Mumm is the third largest champagne producer in the world. It’s still the leading brand in France and Italy and is growing in popularity in Asia, and more than 100 countries around the world, with nearly eight million bottles sold each year. The House of G.H. Mumm offers champagnes with a sense of tradition and for all occasions, to be enjoyed on their own or with food, whether savoury or sweet, with a rare balance between freshness and intensity.
In this range are the G.H. Mumm Cordon Rouge, G.H. Mumm Demi-Sec, G.H. Mumm Rose, G.H. Mumm Grand Cru, G.H. Mumm Millesime, Mumm de Cramant and Cuvee R. Lalou

Prego Champagne Brunch3

Desserts, coffee and more alcoholic beverages such as cocktails from Smirnoff, SKYY Vodka and Grey Goose and even Italian prosecco. Don’t forget the Bellini’s!

Verdict:

Prego’s Sunday Bubbly Brunch is a fantastic new way to indulge and spend time with the family or friends over a slow, giggly brunch. Giggly because if you weren’t that way to begin with, the bubbles will surely fix that in a jiffy. I am talking alcoholic beverages plus, premium oysters from Donegal, Ireland, Italian signature dishes and of course the famed champagne called Mumm. I really liked the concept of the Sunday Bubbly Brunch as the chefs, including Director of Kitchens, Chef King, as well as service attendants come around to your table with trays of fresh oysters and mussels to make dining more fun and casual. Not only that, you don’t need to queue for your food! The open kitchen concept is really cool too and I love the way you can watch the chefs in action at Prego’s show kitchen.

We were told to help ourselves to the starters : the ‘Antipasto Welcome’ – a small gesture of appreciation from the chefs. Be sure not to O.D on the lush salads, the artichokes, the beef carpaccio, because the mains will be coming around soon! Oyster aficionados will be amazed by the selection of super fresh oysters flown-in from Donegal, Ireland available at the oyster shucking station – the creamy, smooth texture of the oysters really went perfectly with the G.H. Mumm bubbly.

The other dish I totally enjoyed was the wobbly, tender Lamb Shank that was served with risotto by waiters who came around to the tables. If you don’t like carbs too much, good news.. more red meats to tantalize your palate at the Meat Carving station. I liked the roast lamb the best but the steak was excellent too. Prego has a two-level dining restaurant that overlooks an ‘open kitchen’ that houses a wood fired pizza oven, pasta counter and rotisserie. We were served like 5 or 6 different pizzas that day. Superb!

All in all, I was impressed with the brunch because the Mumm Champagne complemented the selection of Italian rustic dishes that were served that day. Prego’s was packed that day with families and their children all having a great time.  Kids of guests who dine in for The Westin’s weekend brunches receive complimentary usage of Westin Kids Club on Level 4 from 11am to 3pm where they keep your kids occupied with story-telling sessions and games.
The Sunday Bubbly Brunch is priced at RM 268++ per person every Sunday from 11:30 am to 2:30 pm, serving food and free flow of G.H. Mumm champagne, Italianesque cocktails, selected wines, house pouring spirits and beer. For a non-alcoholic brunch experience, the price is RM 168++ per person and RM 84++ for children aged 4 – 12 years.
