  • Equatorial’s Golden Phoenix is really taking Off!

    August 26, 2010

The Equatorial Kuala Lumpur is an icon of sorts. I remember eating here as a little girl and now, this place has refurbished its famous Chinese restaurant.

In the past, Equatorial renowned in the city for its award-winning restaurants such as the signature Golden Phoenix Chinese and Kampachi Japanese restaurants, has always been a hot favourite of local diners.

Anyway just recently Feedmelah dot com were asked to invite a couple of food bloggers to Equatorial’s Double Indulgence Mooncake tasting session at the Golden Phoenix Restaurant and Cumi & ciki got the check out the refurbished Golden Phoenix Restaurant. Read about the mooncake session here.

What is that Monkey doing? (check out video)

The lovely PR Manager, Tam Poh Poh, had arranged a Lai Mien (pulled noodles) demonstration, followed by a Lai Mien competition between some of our foodies. Here you see the first Chef, demonstrating the technique.

    pull it, don’t wear it!

    P8074194

    Ta-dah! Super fine , even lai-mien!

A Lil Fatmonkey had to show that he could pull noodles as well as the Chef – the video says it all. Famous last words “It’s not as easy as it looks OK?!!”

Piece of cake.. or rather piece of dough.

The finished product – Lai Mien with chilli, brinjals, minced meat

I found the noodles a bit too soggy and soft.  Iwould have preferred it more al dente.

    Ginseng Chicken Soup

Ciki, a sucker for soups, loved this potent health remedy. How else do you think she runs like she does. Ginseng Chicken soup gives her feet new wings!

    P8074174

Futt Lou Chow Fan (“generous” fried rice.. what a cute name!)

Even Ciki finished all her rice as the fluffy grains were super addictive and when fried with dried scallops, scallops, and crab meat.. irresistible!

William of Feedmelah (who invited us) talking to the big guns of Equatorial Hotel.

The Second Chef beams with pride – Presenting, my newest creation!

    P8074204

Gorgeous seared scallops, crunchy beans, lily bulbs and succulent mango Vegetable dish.

    P8074218

Crispy Beancurd Skin With Prawn Filling

    P8074235

durian pancakes – skin thin crepes wrapped around chunks of durian and whipped cream (even Ciki dared to try this and found it amazing!)

    P8074244

Honey Sea Coconut with Black Jelly

    P8074231

The third and Final Chef gives his closing remarks

Chef number three looks like the FBB icon, you think?

All in all, a great Blogger’s event that was incredibly well arranged and hosted by the Feedmelah team as well as the Equatorial Team. The food was outstanding as was the service. Thank you for the invite!
